Bill Richardson for President!

Welcome the State of New Mexico to the medical marijuana compassionate use community!  It took balls for Democratic Governor Richardson to sign mmj into law making NM the 12th state to recognize and respect the wishes of it's people.  It is a sign of progress that someone of his rank and caliber will "do the right thing" instead of doing the Right Republican thing.

Welcome also former Congressman Bob Barr to the Marijuana Policy Project.  He has seen the error of his ways, he has changed party affiliation and now proudly calls himself a Libertarian. He has seen first hand the growth of Big Brother and the intrusions of the federal government in our private lives.  The War on Drugs has become an extremely convenient tool for a small group of people to use against those they deem unacceptable.

This all gives me so much hope .... that there are people of conscience out there who are also in positions of power.  We need leadership and statesmanship in the politicians we elect.

Bob Barr and Bill Richardson have shown themselves to be good men.

Basketball students face harsh penalties

Sunday, February 11, 2007

Dear Editor,

Before everyone starts judging, moralizing and crucifying those two basketball students who were arrested for possession of small amounts of marijuana and magic mushrooms, our entire community should ask itself if the penalty they now face is commensurate with their crime. On both charges they face six years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

Of course, their lives are completely ruined. They will lose their scholarships and student aid. They will be convicted felons, so they will have a record to overcome. They will spend time in jail learning nothing but how to get into more trouble. Because they had a defective tail light and happened to have a small amount of personal drugs in their possession after a party on a Friday night, these kids face more time than if they had gotten drunk and sexually assaulted coeds.

The United States incarcerates more people than any other nation in the world. Not all police, DEA and sheriffs believe in our draconian drug laws. LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition) actively works to educate communities about the exploding increase in arrests and violations of the civil rights of non-violent American citizens in the name of the War on Drugs.

Sincerely,
Janice Porter

Great victory for the DEA

Drug war agents and police officers, especially DEA director Karen Tandy, can be so proud this week for finally incarcerating a non-violent medical marijuana patient for growing cannabis plants in her own garden.   While sexual predators may get a couple years on their first offense, Stephanie Landa, 60, has been sentenced to 41 months in a federal penitentiary for her "crimes".

Although California has passed Compassionate Use legislation and Police Commisioner David Campos and some officials of the City of San Francisco expressed outrage at the waste in cost and resources the federal government is expending to imprison Landa.    A "rogue" SFPD narcotics officer is suspected of collaborating with DEA agents by informing them of medical marijuana patients.  The "cross deputization" of local police and federal justice is increasing at a disturbing rate.

Stephanie Landa - our hearts are with you.  You should not be in FEDERAL PRISON for doing something women have been doing for centuries - growing God's gift for medicine.  The DEA is making Landa an example - to scare the rest of us into submission.  John Walters, ONDCP, has said the federal government has been "actively correcting some baby boomers impression that drugs were part of an acceptable lifestyle".  Who's with me? Let's sue John Walters for violating our Constitutional right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Free Stephanie Landa!

Power to the People

The Internet, blogs, and search engines like Google have shifted the balance of power toward truth, justice and fair play. Finally.

Marc Emery says "Overgrow the government".  I say "overgrow the government with the truth in the search engines".

Check it out.  Google #1 spot for "John Walters DEA" keywords is ... Marijuana.com!  Referencing a comment to a post, it reads "John Walters lies on record."

The second listing is DEA.gov.  This is almost unheard of.  To unseat a .gov site means there is tremendous community support and talk on marijuana.com.

What must John Walters think when he Googles his own name and the #1 spot comes up Marijuana.com and says "John Walters lies"  This is amazing power.

Bloggers unite!  Go out and make comments, post on your own blogs.  Try leading the first words with the name keywords you are using.... like, instead of my "Dear Karen Tandy letters"  I'm changing it all to read DEA Karen Tandy  and also Karen Tandy DEA.
