RiverBend in Baghdad

Since September 2003 I have been reading the blog "Baghdad Burning" by RiverBend, a highly educated Iraqi woman living with her family in Baghdad.  She has chronicled the war from the Iraqi perspective and documented what life is like under foreign occupation. She stands witness to the chaos, suffering and unbelievable violence that threatens now to completely destroy her country.

Her entry dated July 11, 2006 is heartbreaking.  She recounts the execution of a close friend in one of the many massacres happening daily in her neighborhoods. This latest entry to her journal, outraged and bereft, is painful to read.

If I ever hear someone say again "... better to fight them in Iraq than here on home soil" I'll say read RiverBend. We have no right to do what we're doing in that country.  It's not our own soil, but it is someone else's.
