Cindy Sheehan Stands Up For America
Cindy Sheehan lost her son Casey on the Iraqi battlefield April 4, 2004. He was born May 29, 1979 (two days before my twins). She has taken her personal pain and suffering and turned it into a force of social good for all mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers who mourn war deaths. She has also become outraged at how poorly our US government takes care of our troops in the field and when they come home.
As co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace, she has galvanized us to take action, to ask (no, demand) questions, to hold our government accountable for their actions. This is about as American as you can get. While representatives argue in Washington about protecting the symbol of our flag, Sheehan and the many thousands of troops and their families are the ones protecting the meaning of the flag.
As a mother, I thank you Cindy. I don't know how I would survive the death of one of my children. God bless you. DC
